2What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small text file stored on your browser or device when you visit a website. Cookies can remember a session, maintain security, enable a feature, prevent fraud or help understand how a service is used. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, pixels, software development kits and device identifiers.
Cookies may be session cookies, which expire when the browser session ends, or persistent cookies, which remain for a stated period or until deleted. First-party cookies are set for the domain you are visiting. Third-party cookies or storage are set or accessed by another service, such as an advertising platform.
3The categories we use
Strictly necessary
These technologies are required for the website or a feature you request to work, for example remembering your cookie choice and a referral code from a friend's link. They do not require consent where the applicable e-privacy law provides a strictly-necessary exemption, but we still explain them and minimise their use.
Functional
Functional technologies remember optional preferences or provide enhanced features. We do not currently deploy separate optional functional cookies. If introduced, we will classify them and obtain consent where required.
Analytics
Analytics technologies measure visits and interaction. Normal does not use optional analytics cookies. Basic server logs may still be processed for security, reliability and aggregate operational reporting without placing an analytics cookie.
Advertising
Advertising cookies track activity for targeted advertising or cross-site marketing. Normal uses the Meta Pixel only if you press Accept, to measure which of our ads lead to visits and sign-ups. We never use your quiz answers, or any sensitive information about why you are here, for targeted advertising.
4Cookies and storage currently associated with the Service
The exact technologies set depend on the page, your browser and the choice you make in the cookie bar. The following inventory reflects the Service reviewed on the effective date. Provider names and technical identifiers can change, so we review the deployed configuration and update this table when a material change is made.
| Cookie or technology | Provider / domain | Purpose | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
nq.ck (local storage) | Normal / [domain] | Remembers whether you accepted or declined the advertising cookie, so we don't ask again. Strictly necessary. | Until you clear site data |
nq.r (session storage) | Normal / [domain] | Remembers a referral code if you arrived through a friend's link. Strictly necessary. | Session |
Meta Pixel, including _fbp | Meta Platforms / facebook.com, only after you press Accept | Tells us that someone who saw one of our ads visited, started the quiz or joined. It never receives your quiz answers or your email. Advertising. | Up to 90 days |
If you press No thanks, the Meta Pixel never loads. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, keeps short-lived request logs for security; they place no cookie.
5Consent and legal basis
Under UK privacy and electronic communications rules and similar laws, consent is generally required before storing or accessing information on a device unless the technology is strictly necessary for a service the user requested. [operator jurisdiction data protection law, if any] also requires personal information obtained through cookies to be used fairly, lawfully, transparently and securely.
We rely on the strictly-necessary exemption for the storage items described above. The Meta Pixel is activated only after you give consent in the cookie bar. Refusing optional cookies will not prevent you from joining the waitlist.
6How to control cookies
You can control cookies in the following ways:
- use the cookie bar displayed on the Normal waitlist to accept or reject the advertising cookie;
- change your browser settings to block, delete or limit cookies and site storage, and clear this site's data to be asked again;
- use privacy controls offered by Meta when you use its services; and
- contact us if you believe a non-essential cookie has been set without an appropriate choice.
Blocking strictly necessary storage may mean you are asked about cookies again, or that a friend's referral is not recorded. Deleting a cookie may cause it to be set again when the same necessary feature is next used.
7Third-party services and links
A third party may set or access technologies when its content or pixel is used. We select suppliers for a defined business purpose and assess their role, but they may be independent controllers for some processing. Meta is an independent controller for data it collects through the Meta Pixel, and its privacy and cookie notices explain its own practices.
8Do Not Track and browser signals
Browser Do Not Track signals are not interpreted consistently across the internet. Whatever signal your browser sends, the Meta Pixel loads only if you press Accept. Where applicable technology and law support recognised consent or opt-out signals, we will assess and honour them as required.
9Updates to this Policy
We may update this Policy when technologies, suppliers, retention periods or legal requirements change. The latest version will show a revised effective date. A material change involving new non-essential cookies will also be reflected in the cookie bar and will not override a consent requirement.
